Cynthia Burnham Fisher
Cynthia Burnham was born June 10, 1866 in Richmond, Cache county, Utah, a daughter of Wallace Kendall Bumham and Lydia Standly. She married James Madison Fisher, Jr" in 1885, as a second, or plural, wife and spent most of her married life in the old Fisher home at 1960 South on 23rd East in East Mill Creek. She had seven children: Arvilla, Retta, James M., Ruth, Emma, Kendall, and Joseph H.
Her daughter, Arvilla, writes:
My mother was sincere, truthful and honest as the sunrise. She was very intolerant, however, of disobedience, lying, or untidiness. She loved her husband and children beyond words. She was frugal in all she did and had a wonderful brain to figure better ways or better living. She spent all her time teaching us how to do things, or reading to us, or playing with us. We were her life. She taught school nine years before I was born and worked in the temple for many years.
She never did one thing to make more work for anyone. Always thought of the other person first. I can just hear her say, "Now, don't you wait on me, you have enough to do." She was the same till the end, till she went unconscious. So patient never had a word of complaint. She was so grateful that she did not have to go to a hospital. She had enough money saved for her burial. After we read her papers, we knew that she knew she was going to leave us, but she never said a word to worry us, or acted frightened. I think she went gladly for she felt a burden and in the way, though Emma and Walt were wonderful to her. She wouldn't live with anyone else. She passed away the 24 December 1949. I was with her for a month before she left. She was happy and patient and didn't suffer too much.
I wish I could write a biography worthy of her great faith and unwavering devotion. She loved all things good and beautiful and received the love of her family and friends. Her funeral was beautiful."
