We Did It!

Since Henry was in an unmarked grave in Diamond we decided to try and mark it. After several attempts to find his grave we found evidence of at least 17 graves, maybe more, in this small graveyard. We took into account shaped stones, places where there were head board anchors, places where there where hand hewn fence rails that where marking the rectuangular areas of graves. we could be wrong about the number of graves that are there, but we think we are pretty close.

Since there is no marker for Henry, we were left with guessing. meanwhile, we wrote to the owners of the property, asking for permission to put a marker in the cemetery. They have some question as to whether they really own the cemetery, but sent us permission just before Memorial day, 2005. It was all set. We invited some family members and I made a headstone.

I wanted his headstone to be nice but I didn't want to spend alot of money on a headstone that would be left in a ghost town cemetery. There may be theft or vandalism. I hope that his posterity will like the stone that I made.P8130011.JPG (36505 bytes)

On Memorial day, the clouds were threatening then finally the rain broke loose in a downpour and rained for several hours. we couldnt get to the cemetery because of the mud. We bagged it and waited for another day.

Between conflicts, and work schedules, we couldn't arrange a day to get together and do it again, so at the last minute a few of us went out to Diamond to honor our Granddad. there were three generations, Henry's GGG grand daughter, GGGG grandson, and GGGGG grand daughter. We placed the stone near one of the graves. It was a spot that we all felt good about, so when Granddad comes forth, he may have to walk across the way to see it, but the thought was there.
